Hydro Jetting in South Florida

High-pressure water clears grease, scale, and root intrusion that a cable snake can’t touch.

Since 1970 · FL Plumbing: CFC1432410 · BBB Accredited · In-house plumbers only. No subcontractors.

Total’s licensed plumbers clear the toughest blockages with hydro jetting

Hydro jetting is the escalation from cable snaking. A cable snake punches a hole through a clog. A jetter scours the entire pipe wall clean with high-pressure water. When you have grease buildup in a kitchen line, hardened scale in an old sewer lateral, root intrusion, or a drain that clogs again a month after every snaking, hydro jetting is what fixes it. We camera-inspect the line first so we know what we’re jetting into. Written, flat-rate quote before any work starts.

When You Need Hydro Jetting

Not every clogged drain needs a jetter. A one-time backup from something you shouldn’t have flushed usually clears with a snake. Hydro jetting is for the situations a snake can’t solve. Recurring clogs, restaurant grease, sewer laterals with tree roots, or long-neglected condo stacks that need a full interior wall clean. Below is where a jetter is the right tool.

Signs a Line Needs Hydro Jetting

Any one of these is a hint. Two or more usually means a snake alone won’t hold.

The same drain clogs again within weeks

Snake it, clears for a bit, backs up again. That pattern means residue is still on the pipe wall. A jetter removes what a snake leaves behind.

Slow drains throughout the house or unit

Not one fixture but several. Points to a main line or shared branch buildup, not a local fixture clog.

Gurgling from drains or toilets

Air struggling past a partial blockage in a main or vent stack. Often the last warning before a full backup.

Sewage smell inside or outside

Waste stuck to pipe walls in a sewer lateral, or a partial blockage venting through fixtures.

Backup at the lowest drain

Ground-floor tub or shower backs up when the washer drains or a toilet flushes. Main line clog signature.

Kitchen line clogging monthly

Grease and food solids coat the pipe wall over time. Snakes bore through, hydro jetting scours it back to bare pipe.

Roots showing up in a video camera inspection

Tree roots that entered a sewer lateral through a joint. A root-cutting jet nozzle clears them.

Restaurant, cafe, or shared commercial kitchen

High grease and food volume shortens the interval between cleanings. Scheduled jetting keeps grease traps and kitchen lines flowing.

Lines Hydro Jetting Handles

Different line types call for different pressure and nozzle configurations. Here’s what we jet most often in South Florida.

Kitchen drain lines

The single most common jetting job. Grease and food solids coat the interior walls. A jetter cuts it back to bare pipe.

Sewer laterals (main sewer line to street)

The main line running from your home to the city sewer or septic. Root intrusion, scale, and long-term sludge live here.

Condo and multi-family drain stacks

Laundry stacks, kitchen stacks, main soil stacks. Shared vertical drains carry decades of buildup. Jetting restores flow floor to floor.

Commercial kitchen lines and grease trap lines

Restaurants, cafes, HOA clubhouses, shared kitchens. High grease volume shortens the cleaning interval; scheduled jetting prevents shutdowns.

Floor drains and area drains

Basement, garage, laundry room, restaurant floor. Silt, hair, and organic buildup collect and slow flow.

Storm drains and yard drains

Leaves, sand, and organic debris pack tight after storms. A jetter blasts it out without excavation.

Older cast iron and clay pipe

Common in pre-1975 South Florida homes and condos. Scale builds on the interior wall and narrows the effective diameter. Jetting extends the life of the line before repiping is required.

Why Camera-First, Then Hydro Jet

Hydro jetting is powerful. That’s the whole point. And also why the wrong pipe under it can be a problem.

  • Fragile or broken pipe: old cast iron with corrosion damage, cracked clay, or collapsed sections need to be identified before jetting. Camera inspection finds them first.
  • Right pressure, right nozzle: a residential kitchen line and a main sewer lateral are jetted at different PSI and with different nozzle designs. Seeing the line first sets the plan.
  • Confirm the cause: roots, grease, scale, and foreign objects each look different on video. Knowing which one it is changes the approach.
  • Documented before-and-after: a camera pass before and after jetting is the proof the line is actually clean, not just flowing again. Especially important for commercial and property-management jobs.
  • Catches structural problems early: if the camera shows a break, a bellied section, or a collapse, we call it out before jetting instead of causing damage. That may mean a line repair conversation instead.

How We Hydro Jet

Every jetting call starts with a camera pass and a plan. We choose the pressure, nozzle, and access point based on what the line is, what’s clogging it, and what the pipe can handle. Here are the four approaches we use most often.

Method 1

Video Camera Pre-Inspection Before Jetting

Best for: every jetting job. This is step one, not an add-on.

A waterproof camera on a flexible push-rod runs the line first. We see the interior condition, identify the blockage type, and confirm the pipe is structurally sound before we introduce high-pressure water. Same tool we use for leak detection on drain lines.

When this is the right tool: always. Every jetting call opens with a camera pass so we jet with information, not guesswork.
Method 2

Standard-Pressure Residential Jetting

Best for: kitchen lines, bathroom branches, laundry lines, floor drains.

Moderate PSI with a standard clearing nozzle. Enough force to scour grease, hair, and biological buildup off the pipe wall without stressing a residential drain line. The most common home jetting job. And the fix for the drain that keeps clogging back a few weeks after every snaking.

When this is the right tool: recurring residential clogs, kitchen line grease buildup, drain lines that need a full interior wall clean instead of a snake hole.
Method 3

High-Pressure Sewer & Commercial Jetting

Best for: main sewer laterals, commercial kitchen lines, condo main soil stacks, grease-heavy lines.

Higher PSI, higher flow, larger-diameter nozzle. Built for main sewer lines to the street, restaurant kitchen lines, and condo stacks with decades of buildup. This is the pressure class most one-truck plumbing companies don’t own. We do.

When this is the right tool: main sewer lateral cleaning, commercial kitchens, condo/HOA main line maintenance, or any 3-4″ line that needs a deep clean.
Method 4

Root-Cutting Jetting

Best for: sewer laterals with tree root intrusion.

A rotating cutting-head nozzle powered by the jet stream slices through root mass in a sewer lateral without excavation. We camera-verify the line before and after. Roots that grow back can be re-cut, and we’ll flag any joint or pipe damage on the same visit so you know whether jetting alone is enough or the section needs repair.

When this is the right tool: camera inspection shows root intrusion at a joint, and the pipe wall around the intrusion is still sound.

Hydro Jetting FAQ

How much does hydro jetting cost?

Every jetting call is different, so pricing is quoted on site rather than published up front. The cost depends on the line type (residential kitchen vs main sewer lateral vs commercial kitchen), how long the line is, how heavy the buildup is, whether a camera inspection is included, and whether it’s a one-time clean or a scheduled maintenance service. Call (954) 900-6767 for an honest range for your specific situation, or schedule a diagnostic visit and we’ll give you a written, flat-rate quote before any work starts.

What’s the difference between hydro jetting and snaking?

A cable snake pushes through the middle of a clog to restore flow. It’s fast, cheap, and often enough for a one-time backup. A hydro jetter uses high-pressure water to scour the entire pipe wall clean, removing the grease, scale, and residue a snake leaves behind. Snaking is a hole through the clog. Jetting is a full interior clean. If your drain keeps clogging back after every snaking, jetting is what actually fixes it.

Is hydro jetting safe for older pipes?

With a camera inspection first, yes. Blind jetting into an unknown pipe is where damage happens. We run the line with a camera before we jet, identify any cracked, corroded, or collapsed sections, and adjust pressure or approach based on what we see. If a section is too fragile to jet safely, we’ll tell you and recommend a repair path instead.

Will hydro jetting remove tree roots?

Yes, with a root-cutting nozzle. A rotating cutting-head nozzle powered by the jet stream slices through root mass in sewer laterals without excavation. We camera-verify before and after. If the roots entered through a broken or displaced joint, we’ll flag that on the video. Jetting clears the roots, but the joint may still need repair to keep them from coming back quickly.

How long does a hydro jetting appointment take?

Most residential jetting jobs (kitchen line, single drain line) run 60-90 minutes including the camera pass. Main sewer laterals typically run 90 minutes to 2 hours. Commercial kitchen jetting and condo main soil stacks can be a half-day depending on line length and buildup. We give you a realistic window when you call.

Can hydro jetting damage my pipes?

Not when the pressure and nozzle match the pipe. Kitchen lines get standard-pressure jetting with a standard nozzle. Main sewer laterals get higher pressure with a heavier nozzle. Fragile, damaged, or collapsed sections get flagged in the camera pass and are not jetted. The rule is: camera first, jet second, match the tool to the pipe.

Do you offer scheduled hydro jetting for commercial kitchens or HOA properties?

Yes. Restaurants, cafes, condo associations, and property-management portfolios often schedule quarterly or semi-annual jetting to keep grease and buildup from causing an emergency shutdown. We’ll assess your line usage, recommend an interval, and put you on a recurring schedule with documented camera passes each visit.

Will hydro jetting work on a completely blocked line?

In most cases, yes. The jet stream cuts into the blockage progressively, breaking it up as it advances. Full blockages just take longer. If a foreign object is causing the block (kids’ toy, tool, tree root ball) we may retrieve it with a camera-guided grab tool before jetting the residual buildup. Occasionally a fully collapsed pipe section needs excavation and repair. But that’s a pipe problem, not a clog problem, and the camera catches it.

How often should a line be hydro jetted?

Depends on the line and the use. A single-family residential kitchen line: usually every 2-3 years is enough unless there’s a heavy cooking pattern. A commercial kitchen: often quarterly or every 6 months. Condo main soil stacks: often annually. Sewer laterals with a history of root intrusion: every 12-18 months. We’ll recommend an interval based on what we see in your line.

How fast can you get out for a jetting job?

Same-day is often possible for residential jetting across Miami-Dade, Broward, and South Palm Beach, especially when a line is actively backing up. Commercial and scheduled maintenance jetting is booked ahead. Call (954) 900-6767 and we’ll give you an honest window.

Drain clogging back after every snaking?
