Total Commercial Plumbing: PRV & Clay Valve Replacement

Restoring Balanced Water Pressure in a High-Rise Miami Condo

Location: Miami, FL | Service: Commercial Plumbing | Project Type: PRV & Booster System Repair

Fixing Inconsistent Water Pressure in a Miami High-Rise Condo Building

A high-rise condo in Miami was facing inconsistent water pressure. Residents on upper floors struggled with weak flow, while those on lower levels experienced pipe noise and pressure surges. The building’s city-supplied water arrived at only 50–60 psi — not enough to reach upper floors without assistance.

The existing skid-mounted booster pump system was working, but the pressure-reducing valves (PRVs) meant to balance flow across all levels were worn out.

What Total Did

Our commercial plumbing team:

  • Replaced 4 clay-style PRV valves connected to the booster pump system
  • Installed a new primary pressure-reducing valve to better regulate water flow
  • Calibrated the entire system to maintain steady water pressure across all floors

In most high-rise condos, water pressure drops ~4.33 psi per floor. Without the right balance, pressure is either too low at the top or dangerously high at the bottom. These new PRVs allowed the building to push water high enough for top floors while safely controlling it for the rest.

The Outcome

Within 24 hours, residents noticed a dramatic improvement in water flow and consistency. No more complaints from upper floors. No more water hammer issues down below.

The upgraded valves now protect the building’s infrastructure and deliver reliable water service to every unit — from lobby to penthouse.
