Who Owns the Luxury Appliance Brands? The 2026 Ownership Map

Walk an appliance showroom floor and you will see a dozen luxury appliance brands presented as a dozen separate companies. Most of them are not. Behind roughly twenty of the names in the high-end kitchen category sit about ten parent companies, and in February 2026 one of the biggest groups changed hands entirely.

We repair these machines every day across Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade, so this is the map as it looks from the service side. Every ownership claim below links to the company’s own filing, press release, or brand page. Nothing here is a ranking and nothing here is a knock on any brand.

Ownership map of the luxury appliance brands in 2026, showing ten parent companies and the brands each one owns, including BSH with Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau, Composition Brands with Viking and La Cornue, Haier with GE Monogram and Fisher and Paykel, and the independents Sub-Zero Group, Miele, Liebherr and Smeg.
Ten parent companies sit behind most of the luxury appliance brands sold in the United States, as of September 2026.

Why does it help to know who owns your appliance brand?

Ownership shapes three things a homeowner eventually runs into, and none of them appear on the spec sheet.

  • Parts channels: brands under one parent often draw from shared parts distribution. When two badges sit under the same corporate roof, a part for one is frequently ordered through the same pipeline as the other.
  • How long parts stay available: a parent company decides how many years it stocks components for a discontinued model. That decision outlives the purchase by a decade or more.
  • Who stands behind the warranty: the entity honoring a warranty can change while the badge on the door stays the same, which is exactly what happened to several brands this year.

Two brands sharing a parent does not make them the same appliance. Engineering, build location, and price point still differ. It does mean the two badges are not the independent competitors a showroom presents them as.

Private equity just took control of Viking, La Cornue and Lynx

This is the biggest change in luxury appliance ownership in years, and it went almost unmentioned outside trade press.

26North Partners, an investment firm founded by Josh Harris that has grown past $32 billion in assets under management since launching in 2022, bought a 51% controlling stake in The Middleby Corporation’s residential kitchen division. Middleby kept 49% plus a $135 million seller note. The deal valued the business at $885 million, and Middleby announced its completion on February 2, 2026. The business was renamed Composition Brands, described in the closing announcement as an independent platform of premium and ultra-luxury kitchen and outdoor brands.

Composition Brands lists fifteen brands: Viking, La Cornue, AGA, Rangemaster, Lynx, U-Line, Marvel, Novy, Trade Wind, John Michael Studio, Kamado Joe, Masterbuilt, Evo, Char-Griller, and Leisure Sinks.

If you bought a Viking range, a La Cornue, or a Lynx grill before February 2026, the company that now controls the business that made it is different from the one that did when you signed. That is not a prediction about service quality, it is a fact about the corporate structure, and it follows the pattern we documented in our piece on private equity buying up home service companies. The same capital moving through the trades is now moving through the appliances.

Which luxury appliance brands share a parent company?

Here is the same map as a table, with the detail the graphic has no room for: who holds control of each parent company, and where it stands today. Every parent links to its own source.

Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau are the same company

This is the single most useful fact on the list for anyone shopping a high-end South Florida kitchen. BSH Home Appliances lists Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau as its own brands, positioned at three different price points. Gaggenau sits at the top, Thermador in the luxury tier, Bosch as the volume brand.

BSH itself was a Bosch and Siemens joint venture until Bosch bought out Siemens’ 50% stake, a deal that closed in January 2015 and made BSH a wholly owned Bosch subsidiary. So when a designer presents Thermador and Gaggenau as competing options, both roads lead to Stuttgart.

There is a South Florida footnote here too. Bosch bought FHP Manufacturing in 2007 and still builds water source heat pumps in Fort Lauderdale, which is the equipment a large share of coastal condo buildings run. The same parent company shows up in the kitchen and in the mechanical closet. If that side is what you are researching, we cover it in our guide to which air conditioning brand is best.

Haier owns more of the American luxury kitchen than most buyers realize

GE Appliances identifies itself in its own words as “GE Appliances, a Haier company”, headquartered at Appliance Park in Louisville. Its house of brands covers Monogram, Café, GE Profile, GE, Haier and Hotpoint, with Monogram as the luxury tier. Haier acquired the business in 2016 and holds rights to the GE name on appliances into the 2050s.

Fisher & Paykel belongs to the same parent. Haier ran a full takeover of Fisher & Paykel Appliances Holdings in 2012, recorded with New Zealand’s Takeovers Panel, and the company was delisted from the New Zealand exchange that November. A Monogram and a Fisher & Paykel, presented as unrelated premium options, share a corporate parent.

Dacor is Samsung, and SKS is LG

Samsung moved into the luxury tier by purchase. It announced the Dacor acquisition in August 2016, with Dacor becoming a wholly owned unit of Samsung Electronics America and, per reporting at the time, no changes planned to Dacor’s branding, operations, or US manufacturing.

LG took the other route and built a luxury line instead of buying one. Signature Kitchen Suite launched in 2016 as LG’s built-in brand. Its own site carries no LG logo and never names LG in its copy, though the privacy policy it links to lives on LG’s corporate domain. So a shopper comparing SKS against Monogram or Thermador is comparing two conglomerates, not an independent house against a giant.

Which luxury appliance brands are still independent?

Four names on the list answer to a family rather than a conglomerate or a fund.

  • Sub-Zero Group: owns Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove, and describes itself as a third-generation, family-owned, privately held company based in Madison, Wisconsin, with plants in Fitchburg, Wisconsin and Goodyear, Arizona. Sub-Zero picked up Wolf’s domestic line in 2000, which is why the two travel together.
  • Miele: states it has been an independent family-owned company since its establishment in 1899, reporting turnover of 5.16 billion euros and roughly 23,000 employees in the 2025 business year. It is the rare case where the luxury brand and the parent company are the same thing.
  • Liebherr: the group’s parent, Liebherr-International AG in Bulle, Switzerland, is entirely owned by members of the Liebherr family. The refrigeration line traces back to a plant Hans Liebherr built in Ochsenhausen, Germany in the 1950s.
  • Smeg: founded in Guastalla, Italy in 1948 by Vittorio Bertazzoni Sr., per Smeg’s own history. Bertazzoni is a separate, older company started by the same family in the same town, which is why two Italian brands carry one family’s name without being one business.

Does the parent company change how your appliance gets repaired?

Sometimes, and not in the way people expect. It rarely shows up in how fast a technician reaches your kitchen. Across the luxury tier, the realistic wait for a qualified tech in South Florida is broadly similar from brand to brand, so anyone ranking these badges by response time is selling you a story.

Where it does show up:

  • Parts sourcing on older units: a large parent with a deep catalog may keep a component available longer than a small independent can. It can also discontinue a line faster after an acquisition. Both happen.
  • Shared components across badges: when two brands share a parent, a part may cross between them, which can widen the sourcing options on a repair.
  • Who authorizes warranty work: factory-authorized service networks are set by the parent, so an ownership change can reshuffle which local companies are authorized on which brand.

Total repairs appliances, we do not sell them, so we have no brand to talk you into. What we will say is that the repair-or-replace math on a luxury appliance works differently than on a mass-market one, because the parts carry more cost and the machines are built to run longer. Our breakdown of the 50/50 rule for repair versus replacement walks through where the line usually falls.

What to ask before you buy a luxury appliance

Ownership is one half of the picture. The other half is how a brand holds up and how quickly it can be fixed, which we cover in our guide to the most reliable appliance brands, based on what our technicians see.

Ownership is one input among several. Four questions get you more than a brand ranking will:

  • How long are parts guaranteed for this model? Ask for a number of years, in writing.
  • Who services this brand near me? Get the authorized list for your zip code before you buy, not after something fails.
  • Is this a built-in? Built-in refrigeration and ranges are sized to cabinetry, so a replacement years out is constrained by what still fits the opening.
  • Has this brand changed hands recently? A new owner can mean new service networks and a different parts strategy. The table above tells you where to look.

If you already own one of these and want a second opinion on a repair, or you are weighing a repair against replacement, we service high-end appliances across Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade. Call or text 954-900-6767, or request service online. For more on the differences between the top luxury lines, see our comparison of Sub-Zero, Wolf, Gaggenau and Thermador.

Luxury Appliance Ownership FAQ

Who owns which luxury appliance brand?

Who owns Thermador and Gaggenau?

Both are owned by BSH, which lists Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, Siemens and Neff as its brands. BSH was a Bosch and Siemens joint venture until Bosch bought out Siemens’ 50% stake in a deal that closed in January 2015, making BSH a wholly owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH. Gaggenau, Thermador and Bosch are positioned at three different price points under the same parent.

Who owns Viking Range now?

Viking is part of Composition Brands, the business formerly known as Middleby’s residential kitchen division. The investment firm 26North Partners acquired a 51% controlling stake in a deal valuing the business at $885 million, completed on February 2, 2026, with Middleby retaining 49%. Composition Brands also holds La Cornue, AGA, Rangemaster, Lynx, U-Line and Marvel.

Is Monogram the same company as GE?

Monogram is the luxury tier of GE Appliances, which describes itself as “GE Appliances, a Haier company” and is headquartered at Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky. Haier acquired GE Appliances in 2016 and holds rights to use the GE name on appliances for decades. GE Appliances also covers Café, GE Profile, GE, Haier and Hotpoint, and the same parent owns Fisher & Paykel.

Family-owned luxury appliance brands

Which luxury appliance brands are still family owned?

Sub-Zero Group, which owns Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove, describes itself as a third-generation family-owned and privately held company in Madison, Wisconsin. Miele states it has been independent and family owned since 1899. Liebherr’s parent, Liebherr-International AG, is entirely owned by members of the Liebherr family. Smeg is an Italian company founded by the Bertazzoni family in Guastalla in 1948.

How many companies own the luxury appliance market?

Roughly ten parent companies sit behind about twenty of the recognizable high-end kitchen brands sold in the United States: BSH under Robert Bosch, Composition Brands, Haier, Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, plus the independents Sub-Zero Group, Miele, Liebherr and Smeg.

What luxury appliance ownership changes for repairs

Does it change anything for repairs if two brands share a parent company?

It can affect parts rather than speed. Brands under one parent often share parts distribution, which can widen sourcing options on a repair, and the parent decides how many years components stay available for a discontinued model. Factory-authorized service networks are also set at the parent level, so an ownership change can reshuffle which local companies are authorized on a brand. Across the luxury tier, realistic service wait times in South Florida are broadly similar from brand to brand.

Total has serviced South Florida homes for 55 years, under three generations of the same family. We repair high-end appliances along with AC, plumbing, and electrical, which means the company diagnosing your refrigerator is the one that fixes it.
